Day in, day out and the human spirit

When I first read “Into the Wild” about Chris McCandless and his ill-fated expedition into Alaska, I straight up thought he was an asshole. His arrogance got him killed – mauled by a bear. However, as an adventurist, I admired his writing and, although misguided and naive, his adventurous spirit. I highlighted several passages in the book – one being:

“So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.”

This series is a reflection on the need to “get the fuck out” and see new places, meet new people, and hear new stories. It also ponders the question of contentment and pursuing our passions – what drives us? And episode 1, “Routine” walks us through this larger questions while introducing the travelers (me and Josh).

So Why Are We More Scared Than Ever?
